Hi! My name is Ash. My favorite color is turquoise and I love learning languages. I'm a figure skater, but I love the arts in general. This includes: reading, creative writing, and drawing to name a few.

Now that you know a little bit about myself, I want to bring your attention to the reason why you're here and why I'm learning Japanese.

- When I first started studying Japanese, it was because I wanted to understand the lyrics sung from my favorite Japanese artist: Hikaru Utada. My older sibling is the one that got me into their music and I wanted nothing more than to understand. This first exposure to the language had me wanting to know more about the culture and the history of Japan. With that being said, I didn't study it from the time I hit middle school until now.

- I dove back into the language because I have a love and deep appreciation for the East Asian culture. It is the first foreign language that I started learning and I want to continue learning a language I have loved for so long.

  1. Hey Ash-- so cool that you like Hikaru Utada! I've come across their songs before, and now with your recommendation, I gotta go listen to them again. I'm really into the Japanese Rock/Metal scene, and I've been listening to Ado (a utaite) a lot recently. Maybe we could exchange our favourites some time!

  3. I also appreciate some Japanese music, and I hope to able to better enjoy them once I have a greater vocabulary. I think it's cool how people from across the world can both take interest in the same art.

    1. As one commenter said, Ado is a great one. I also love listening to Aimer and The Yoshida Brothers (think more of a traditional sound)!

  5. Do you have a long term approach for continuing to learn Japanese, even if you don't end up taking the continuation to this course?

    1. One of the ways I want to continue my acquisition of the language is through media exposure. That would be listening to songs in the language and picking them apart and finding patterns. Another way I can also pick up the language is by reading Japanese news. What about you?

  6. Hi Ash. I also enjoy Japanese music. One of my favorite Japanese musicians is Susumu Hirasawa. I really like his album "Technique of Relief", and the work he did for the Berserk soundtrack.
